GAF Film Club discusses: Social reproduction and solidarity economy

29 October, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Over the past months we put together a lot of reading lists and had a lot of reading group discussions. We now felt that we needed a change of pace and  a move to an easier format to continue these discussions. We will be trying to emulate our pre-Covid film nights only on an online platform instead, by streaming one or two short films (coming to a combined running time 30 minutes maximum because we realise online streaming is not the same as in person film showings) followed by a free flowing discussion on the themes of the films and our thoughts and reactions.

For our first screening we have chosen the theme of social reproduction and solidarity economy and will be showing the following two shorts:

What the F**k is social reproduction? An introduction by Plan C (2015 – 4min): A short introduction to the idea of social reproduction and what it means for those organising in, against and beyond capitalism.

Solidarities, Feminisms and Social Reproduction – Bubbling up (2018 – 23min): A feminist analysis of social and economic practices in Latin America and India and the changes wrought by the creation of solidarity economies and the recognition of social reproduction work.
